Nabil Fakih Talks About the History of ACRL

According to Nabil Fakih, the Arab American Civil Rights League (ACRL) is a civil rights group formed with the intent to protect and advocate the civil rights and liberties of Arab-Americans. Fakih is a member of its board of directors and is also the owner and pharmacist at Dearborn Heights Pharmacy.

Dedicated to the Arab-American Community
He states that the non-profit organization was formed in 2011 as a way to protect Arab-Americans and their civil rights and freedom from all kinds of discrimination, prejudice, or stigma associated with ethnic minorities living in the United States.

Since then, the group has led various public advocacy programs and education campaigns to raise awareness, dispel negative stereotypes, and promote cooperation and understanding. Nabil Fakih adds that the group is led by respected civil rights attorneys and advocates who are dedicated to protect and preserve the rights of the Arab-American community.

Services and Activities
Some of their services include offering free legal consultations and encouraging members of their community to file complaints against discrimination on their website. The group also actively monitors electronic and print media for defamatory statements made against Arab-Americans and does their part to educate and correct them.

ACRL regularly hosts the Fight for Justice Gala. This annual event puts the spotlight on civil rights issues in the Arab-American community while recognizing excellence in social justice and community service. Nabil Fakih notes that hundreds of notable dignitaries and guests, which include elected officials, state and community leaders, and civil rights activists, attend this prominent event.

Pharmacist Turned Community Leader
Nabil Fakih, RPH, graduated from Wayne State University with a pharmacy degree. He opened the DHP Pharmacy in 2000. Fakih is a community leader and considered to be one of the top pharmacists in Dearborn. In June 2014, he was appointed by Gov. Rick Snyder to serve a 4-year term on the Michigan Board of Pharmacy.
