Nabil Fakih and the State of Michigan Board of Pharmacy

Nabil Fakih was appointed as a member of the Board of Pharmacy in 2014. The position is a four-year term where the appointed, along with 11 other board members, run and oversee the group’s activities. Nabil Fakih exited the group in 2018. However, he keeps in close touch with the group and still acts somewhat of a consultant.

The Michigan Board of Pharmacy
The Michigan Board of Pharmacy primarily does the following:

Regulates Manufacturing of OTC and Prescription Drugs in the State
Since compounded drugs aren’t regulated by the FDA, it’s up to each state’s individual institutions to oversee the production and ensure that they pass meet certain requirements and qualities. After all, there are no rooms for mistakes when it comes to medicine.

Note that no pharmacy in the state is exempted from the inspection. Even Dearborn Pharmacy, a local drugstore owned by Nabil Fakih, is subject to certain guidelines. In fact, board member-owned stores should serve as the gold standard.

Controls the Distribution of Prescription and OTC Drugs
It’s a must for any patient to have a medical prescription before they can purchase prescription medication. This might seem like a drag to some, but it’s actually done for the public’s safety.

Prescription drugs are pretty strong and have higher chemical concentrations than OTC medicines do. Taking prescription drugs when you don’t really need to will only put you at risk.

Some common side effects include confusion, nausea, and vomiting, among others. At the same time, strict restrictions prevent people from abusing prescription drugs such as sleeping pills, opioids, and amphetamines.

Ensures Pharmacies Adhere to State Regulations
The MI Board of Pharmacy oversees drugstores and pharmacies in the area to ensure they adhere to all rules and regulations. No fake goods, overpriced products, or damaged medical items.

Nabil Fakih, being a former board member himself, goes the extra mile to ensure his own pharmacy follows all rules and regulations. He wants to set an example for the rest.
